Carolyn MacDonald is the Head of Communications and Marketing at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research in Melbourne, Australia’s oldest medical research institute, with more 850 researchers working to understand, prevent and treat diseases including cancers, immune disorders and infectious diseases.
Carolyn leads the Communications and Marketing team to showcase the Institute’s world class science and create opportunities for engagement with, and awareness of, the Institute and the medical research sector. Her team supports the Institute’s scientists to tell their stories of discovery to local, national and global audiences, helping to make medical research and discoveries accessible to all of the community.
Carolyn has extensive experience in marketing and communications across the science, broadcasting, digital media and publishing sectors. Before joining the Institute, she held a number or senior leadership roles in marketing and innovation at the ABC.
